Floor 2019SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Martin A. Sandoval (D-Chicago) issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s tweet Tuesday announcing the planned deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants.

“Clearly, President Trump hasn’t bothered to learn the history of our country long enough to know that immigration raids will do nothing to help his cause. This racist, inflammatory rhetoric feeds to an irrational fear of immigrants and forces people looking to provide for their families to go into hiding.

“As the son of immigrants, I am proud of what immigrants have accomplished across our country in spite of hateful actions taken against them throughout our country’s history.

“I have the honor of representing a community rooted in cultures brought here from other countries, and I refuse to let good people live in fear in the name of one man’s desperate grasp for popularity.”
